This Thursday Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the Quest 2 successor will be released in October. The famous CEO brought the news in the Joe Rogan Experience podcast on Spotify.
Zuckerburg claimed that the new VR gear will be a successor to the popular Meta Quest 2, and focusses on ‘social presence’. This new VR headset will feature eye tracking and face tracking to create a more immersive experience by enhancing non verbal communication in VR worlds. Zuckerberg also explained that this new gear will feature some mixed reality features. Not to be mistaken for the AR glasses Meta is also working on. Those are probably years away.
The new Meta VR headset will be released at the Connect Conference this October. Although there’s no name for the headset it’s rumoured to be the finalised version of the ‘Project Cambria’ gear Meta has been working on for the past years.
Although the features of this new gear are mostly targeted at social presence like meetings and online gatherings we are very excited about the possibilities for the adult vr industry. Meta is really bringing the VR world to the next level and we can’t wait to try this new product ourselves.
This news comes just weeks after Meta increasing the Quest 2 price from $299 to $399. We’re worried that the price of the new Meta headset will be a lot higher, since Zuckerberg described it as a ‘pretty big step above Oculus 2’. It’s realistic for it to bee $400 or more. We’ll update you as soon as there’s more information from Meta.
